The
review of north! Or Be eaten
Author : Andrew Peterson
Pages : 331
Publisher : WaterBrook Press
First
Relesased: 2009
North! Or Be Eaten is a young adult
fantasy. Logic does not need to be applied.
(My poor, logical brain kept frying every time a sword or dagger was
lost during a flight only to mysteriously and without comment show up when the
owner needed it during the next flight). There was a lot of happenstance and
accidental good and bad fortune used to stir up the plot.
This
is the second book in the series, and I haven’t read the first book. I strongly
suspect this book and learned the family’s “normal” dynamics from it. As it was, i couldn’t
understand why the family members didn’t seem to care about the odd behaviour
the others were showing.
The
book starts out humorously, but quickly turns grim, sad and full guilt and
shame. It’s a world with a very little beauty, trust, safety or mercy. It was just so bleak and cruel, especially to
the thousands of children in the book.
The
world was very imaginative, and what the new plants, animals and objects looked
like was always clear. The pacing was excellent.
There
was no canning, no sex and no magic ( in the sense of casting spells). I
wouldn’t give this book to a child under fourteen ( unless i wanted to depress
and frighten them), but some older teens or adults might like it. Overall it’s
clear reading.

c. He

d.
He
hasn’t read the first book
e. He

20.
How does the author begin the story??
a. The
story ends happily
b. It
starts unexpectable
c. The
story begins mysteriously
d.
The

Higher
Education for women
In this modern era, there are still
some parents who are reluctant about sending their daughters to college. The
narrow attitude shown to women’s education is largely due to the traditional
role of women in society. A woman is expected to be a wife and a mother. Most
parents believe that if their daughters get married and choose to be
housewives, then the higher education will be a waste. However, an educated
woman contributes something to the society.
Nowadays, more and more women are
successfully combining their career and marriage. Educated women are richer
both emotionally and financially. They are able to find an outlet for their
monotonous drudgery of their housekeeping. They bring more satisfaction and
contentment to their lives.
Depriving girls of higher education
is crass discrimination. Times have changed; modern society needs the talents
of its people regardless of gender. Today, women work alongside men, women have
made outstanding contributions to society.
Women should be given freedom to be educated
whether or not they get married or go to work after finishing their education
because it is only through education that a woman will find herself useful and
discover what she wants in life. A woman who works is not an insult to her
husband.
Conversely,
her husband feel proud of her achievement since marriage is actually an equal
partnership.
Therefore, parents should not think
that girls should receive less education just because they will get married
one.

Whales are the largest animal on earth. Bigger than
elephants, they may grow 95 feet long, and weight 150 tons. A baby blue whale,
just born, can be 23 feet long and weight 3 tons.
Although whales live in the oceans and can swim like
fish, they are not fish. They are mammals, like cows and elephants. Unlike
fish, they bear young alive net as eggs. Their babies live on their mother’s
milk. They breathe through their lungs and hold their breathe when they go
under water. If they cannot come to the surface to breathe fresh air, they will
drown. They are warm blooded. Fish, however, lay eggs, breathe oxygen in the
water and are cold blooded.
Whales live in all the oceans. In the winter some of
them go to warm waters to breed and in the summer most of them go to cold
waters to feed. There are two kinds of whales, whales with teeth (toothed
whales) and whales without teeth (baleen whales). The toothed whales eat fish
and squid, which they can catch with their teeth, although they swallow their
food without chewing it. The baleen whales eat plankton (small sea animals and
plants). When they find plankton, they open their mouths and swim into the
plankton. When they close their mouths, they squeeze out the water and swallow
the plankton.
Whales have few enemies. Only human beings and the
killer whales attack whales. And whales do not seem to fight among themselves.

Vibrio
parahaemolyticus is a bacteria that has been isolated from sea water, shell
fish, finfish, plankton and salt springs. It has been a major cause of food
poisoning in Japan and the Japanese have done several studies on it. They have
confirmed the presence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in the north and central
Pasific with the highest abundance in inshore waters, particularly in or near
large harbors.
A
man named Nishio studied the relationship between the chloride content of sea
water and the seasonal distribution of Vibrio parahaemolyticus and concluded
that while the isolation of Vibrio parahaemolyticus was independent of the
sodium chloride content, the distribution of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in the sea
water was independent on the water temperature. In fact it has been isolated in
high frequencies during summer, form June to September, but was not isolated
with the same frequency in winter within four or five days after eating
contaminated foods, a person will begin to experience diarrhea, the most common
symptom; this will very often be accompanied by stomach cramps, nausea, and
vomiting. Headache and fever, with or without chills, may also be experienced.

The
Great Pyramid of Giza, a monument of wisdom and prophecy was built as a tomb
for Pharaoh Cheops in 2720 B.C. Despite its antiquity, certain aspects of its
construction make it one of the truly great wonders of the world. The four
sides of the pyramid are aligned almost exactly on true north, south, east and
west –an incredible engineering feat. The ancient
Egyptians were sun
worshipers and great astronomers, so computations for the Great Pyramid were
based on astronomical observations.
Exploration
and detailed examinations of the base of the structure reveal many intersecting
lines. Further scientific study indicates that these represent a type of time
line of events – past, present, and future. Many of the events have been
interpreted and found to coincide with known facts of the past. Others are
prophesied for future generations and are presently under investigation.
